Ray Atiyeh, President of Lehigh Valley SportsFest, said the new statement is "to utilize the resources of the Lehigh Valley to promote amateur athletic competition, health, and fitness for the benefit of our youth and the wellness of our community.
"... Since the first SportsFest and those to be held in the future, we continue to host over 10,000 amateur athletes in sporting events over four days across the Lehigh Valley each July. The proceeds of SportsFest will continue to support local athletes in the form of a scholarship program as well as purchasing equipment that is used throughout the City of Allentown for sports programs."
This year's SportsFest XIV will feature a Health & Fitness Expo in support of the new mission statement.
The Expo will be located at Cedar Beach Park and will include sports organizations, health professionals, rehabilitation services, exercise equipment, instruction, food sources, and nutrition specialists, designed to enhance the performance of participants and the health of all who attend.
"We always say at SportsFest a strong community is equal to a strong city and an event like SportsFest cannot happen without a strong community," Atiyeh said.
